Hey I'm new to the forums too. I myself prefer the OEM instead of aftermarket, reason being Aftermarket rims tend to look smaller on our LARGE SUV's because of the lip that Aftermarket rims to often has. But again it is a preference thing, I myself love the fact that my OEM are very durable and reliable. I hit a major pothole in Alabama on my way to TX and when I got out to check on my wheels they were just fine. You will spend more for them but worth every penny once you get them mounted and installed.
The other members may offer some great info also so keep your option open. |

While there are many good looking aftermarket wheels on the market, one cannot question the quality & durability of OEM wheels. So when Ford produces a wheel that appeals to me ... like the 8-spoke 20" wheels shown on page 1 of this thread ... I want a set. And it looks like a set of 20s is in my near future because I just shook hands on a deal to sell my GT40 kit car and car trailer. |

Very nice... are you going to use the KR caps?
Which ever caps you use, may I suggest using closed caps on the front? The diameter of the lockouts and 08 caps do not match up very good. There is quite a bit of space between the hub's outer edge and the inner edge of the cut-out of the cap. If you needed 2 more closed ones you can get them easy on ebay... that's where I got mine. Plus, I sold my open ones there too... Can't wait to see them mounted up on your X.

I already do love how they look on yours & I want that on mine.
Bob - Thanks for the center cap tip.
Can either of you tell me if the 2" thick steel spacers come with any kind of preservative on them? Did either of you paint your spacers, or do ya' just let 'em rust? |

No Ken, I did not clear coat or paint mine... mine are aluminum.
I used this product on my spacers and wheels... It works great... it is easy to apply and wipe off... I did 2 applications. It gives a great shine and more importantly, it makes the wheels super easy to clean... My wheel brush goes through the wheel openings and I wash the spacers when I do the wheels. Heres a link:
http://www.wheelwax.com/
BTW... Make sure that your wheel studs do not pop out above the mounting surface of the spacer (know what I mean?) I had a "churping" sound coming from the front of my X that drove me crazy about 2 weeks after I first mounted the 20's... I took the p-side wheel off and to my surprise the tops of the wheel studs had rubbed a small imprint in the wheel... When I first installed the spacer the stud did not pop out above the mounting surface of the spacer... I believe that when I torqued the wheel down it caused the wheel mounting surface rub and cause the "churp".
I had to grind down about 3/16's of an inch of the non-threaded part of the stud. It was a piece of cake with my grinder... It took some time.... But... Problem solved. Funny thing, it was only on the one wheel.

I sprayed a light coat of primer on my steel spacers from Fred G. None of the studs protruded beyond the face of the spacers. They're on & here's a before/after photo from one of my albums ...

BTW, I do have an extra set of rear King Ranch center caps on order, and I installed Ford (McGard) locking lug nuts.

Now that they are mounted, let me be the first to officially welcome you to the 'OEM 20 Club"
Welcome!!
BTW... dues can be sent to me... cash only (I'm saying cash the way Mike Golic says it)
They look great... Glad to see you took my advice and are going with the closed caps up front.
Luckly, your 4 "airfoils" and my Harley D. lights, and NASCAR Special Edition emblems make it easy to distinguish our 2 X's. (ed...whoops add the FoMoCo M-2301-E Alum Fuel filler door too).

Is that the one with the Mustang Pony emblem on the inside surface? If so, I had one of those on my 2001 LTD X. |
